Published by
Jonathan Davis of Illinois ran a lifetime-best 3:33.81 in the men's 1,500 meters to triumph at the third leg of the Under Armour Sunset Tour, presented by Sound Running, at Jack Kemp Stadium at Occidental College. Davis, who finished second June 25 in 3:46.01 at the USATF Championships and didn't have the global standard to compete at the World Championships at Hayward Field, ran the second-fastest time in Illinois program history behind only the 3:33.05 achieved by Marko Koers in 1996 in France. Davis elevated to the No. 12 all-time collegiate all-dates competitor and ascended to the No. 20 outdoor performer in American history. He produced the No. 7 performance in the world this year, including the second-fastest on U.S. soil, trailing only the 3:33.74 collegiate record achieved April 13 by Eliud Kipsang of Alabama at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University, the same race Davis secured sixth place in 3:36.85. |
